March. The flowers are blooming. I'm Comila, and I'm ten now. It's just me and little Bluefire. I have to be the adult now.
April brings so much rain. Bluefire was crying because the thunder was loud, but I held him close. We stayed dry together.
May. I managed to buy some milk today. People look at me funny because I'm alone, but I don't care as long as Bluefire is fed.
June is getting hot. Bluefire gets fussy in the heat. I find the coolest spots in the apartment and we just rest.
July. He took three steps today! My little Bluefire is growing up so fast. I wish there was someone to show, but it's just us.
August nights are full of fireflies. We watch them from the window. Bluefire's eyes sparkle just like them. He's safe here.
September. The leaves are turning brown. I'm starting to worry about the winter. I need to save more money for blankets.
October. The wind is biting. I bought a small heater today. It was expensive, but Bluefire can't get sick. I won't let him.
November. It's so cold now. I wrap him in everything we have. He sleeps so soundly, he has no idea how hard it is... good.
December. The first snow. I told him stories about Christmas. We don't have a tree, but we have each other.
January. A new year. We survived the hardest months. Bluefire is talking more now. He calls me 'Mila'. It's my favorite sound.
February. Almost a year since we've been on our own. Look at us, Bluefire. We did it. I'll always protect you. Always.
