Zero: Penguins At The Movies

"Zero: Penguins At The Movies" is a 2010 animated cartoon segment that debuted on Sesame Street in Episode 4220. Running for one minute and thirteen seconds, the short features a family of penguins attending a movie theater, focusing heavily on Father Penguin's humorous reactions to a lack of snacks.

Extended Plot [edit]

We see a light blue movie theater populated with light purple Antarctica animals chattering alongside five movie seats. A family of penguins (Brother, Sister with a light pink bow, Mother with red hair, a mask, and a light pink necklace, and Father wearing purple glasses) walks to the theater. They jump into their seats as the other animals stop chattering.

As Brother, Sister, and Mother eat their snacks, Father realizes he has none. He imagines the narrator awfully saying "There Are zero Sardine Duuds?" causing Father to cry "NNNOOOOO!!!" twice. The Antarctica animals promptly shush him. As the scenario repeats, fast motion appears.

Father imagines again, and the narrator says "There Are zero Sardine Pops". Father cries out again, "OOOOOOOHNN!!!", resulting in more shushing from the surrounding animals. After Brother finishes eating, Mother leaves her seat while Father becomes excited. Laughing "Ha Haaaa Ha Haaa!!", he flies into Mother's vacant seat. After Sister eats, Father humorously feels "delicious".

A squid jumps up and cheers "There Are?", feeling excited when Father dumps three times twice. Finally, we cut to Father jumping. Feeling determined, he looks directly at the viewers and lip-syncs "Zero Sardine Booty!" in a deep, sudden brainy voice. Everyone cheers (though Mother feels stressed), and an iris transition closes the segment.

  • During the two cries and the "Zero Sardine Booty" line, Father's glasses are viewed from the front-right perspective, and his eyebrows suddenly appear.
  • The penguin family all walk together in the beginning sequence.
  • The entire penguin family's mouths are colored light pink.
  • During Father Penguin's final jump at the end, his left eyebrow is bent and his beak appears noticeably longer.

Extended Goofs/Errors [edit]

  • Continuity: The narrator mentions five movie seats, but there are only four members of the penguin family present initially.
  • Animation: Father's glasses shift perspective and defy physics during his extreme crying reactions compared to his standard walking animation.
  • Audio Sync: The lip-sync for "Zero Sardine Booty!" is slightly offset from the deep voice track.
